Blue Mountains Tourist : Spring 2008
Andrew Russell and Lucy Kuypers, managers of the Old City Bank Brasserie. The Carrington also picked up the award for Best Regional Superior Hotel. “It’s very hard running an independent hotel in regional Australia,” Mr Jarvis said of the award. “We are very small in comparison with some of our competitors in other regional areas such as the Hunter or Canberra, and being locally owned and operated, we don’t have huge budgets to spend on marketing and promotion. “We really rely on our staff providing the highest levels of service and comfort to build our reputation. Awards like this really recognise the effort of the staff and management.” Josophan’s J ‘French Collection’ wins CHAMPION CHOCOLATE EXHIBIT 2008! odie Van Der Velden, of Josophan’s, Leura and Blackheath, has been awarded Champion Chocolate exhibit in the Chocolate section of the 2008 Sydney Royal Cheese & Dairy Produce Show. The Sydney Royal Fine Food, Wine and Cheese & Dairy Produce Shows are judged in the lead-up to the Sydney Royal Easter Show, where the champion exhibits will be on display. The Champion chocolate exhibit was the ‘French Collection’, inspired by Jodie’s trip to the Salon du Chocolat Professional, and the World Chocolate Masters competition in Paris in October 2007. Jodie says “inspired by the bold flavours being used by the French artisan Chocolatiers, I’ve created our own ‘French Collection’ drawing on fresh herbs and citrus, the chocolate centres infused with flavours such as tender fresh basil leaves and fresh lime, fresh mint and orange, honey and lavender, and lemon and hazelnut. Combined with incredible chocolate, love and attention to detail, I believe the outcome is outstanding”. Of the five entries submitted by spring 2008 Josophan’s, all five were medal winners, and the French Collection received the highest marks overall for a Gold Medal, placing Jodie as the overall winner and Champion Chocolate Exhibit. This is the second time Josophan’s has been awarded Champion Chocolate exhibit at the Sydney Royal Show, in just three years. The announcement was made at the official Awards Luncheon on Febraury 14th, at the Sydney Showground, Olympic Park, where the award was accepted by Jodie’s husband David, also of Josophan’s, as Jodie was working in Melbourne on the day. The winning exhibit will be on display at the 2008 Sydney Royal Easter Show. Jodie will also be lecturing at the Sydney Royal Show as part of the schools educational programme, run over eight days, Jodie will be presenting to 1600 school children, keen to learn about chocolate!
