Blue Mountains Tourist : Spring 2008
It’s SpectaculArtly Spring! T he Blue Mountains is renowned for its artistic community – and SpectaculArt is an annual Springtime event to encourage and show off the region’s talent. Centrepiece of the event is the Crockett Group Art Prize. Valued at $9,000, this is the first major sponsored prize for members of the Blue Mountains Artists’ Company (BMAC). BMAC is run by artists for artists and has 140 members, all of whom are eligible to submit works for this significant competition. The first SpectaculArt was held last October and proved to be a tremendous success. The Blue Mountains Artists’ Company and the Crockett Group are intent on building on this initial success to strengthen and support the vitality of the mountains arts scene. The event this year is at the Mountains Heritage Hotel in Katoomba on the weekend of 10-12 October. A grand cocktail party on the Friday evening includes a variety of entertainment and the art exhibition is open all weekend in the hotel’s ballroom. The flavour of SpectaculArt is light-hearted and informal, the accent being on the enjoyment and celebration of art. The competition covers two broad categories – Traditional and Contemporary. This year SpectaculArt is partnering with another 25% off Admission FEATHERDALEWILDLIFE PARK FREEKoala encounters popular local event, the Leura Gardens Festival, in which residents open their private gardens to the public for enjoyment and appreciation.
