Blue Mountains Tourist : Autumn 2011
A flavour of India autumn 2011 www.bluemountainstouristnewspaper.com.au 31 The Blue Mountains isn't a place you would normally associate with statues of the Indian god Ganesh or metal artwork using the ancient Aum symbol -- yet you'll find both at the Talisman Gallery at Little Hartley. The gallery and associated wood-fired pizza café are run by metal artist Ron Fitzpatrick and his partner Catherine. Ron's inspiration for his unique Aum shaped mirrors and wall decorations come from his love of India, which he has visited twice to spend time at the ashram of his meditation master. Ron loves having Indian visitors to his gallery - "I really enjoy seeing their faces when they come in to the gallery and there on the wall is their Aum symbol represented as a mirror or wall hanging, or one of our hand carved Ganesh statues. Ron's other metal artworks are a drawcard as well. There are art mirrors, clocks, sculpture and a fantastic range of silver jewellery. "People really love our wood-fired pizzas, too," says Ron. "We have a great selection with many vegetarian options and of course there is the famous no. 9 -- Tandoori Chicken with homemade tomato chutney and mint yoghurt. Ron says the relaxed atmosphere and stunning view of the valley helps people to relax and enjoy their visit. The gallery and café are located on the Great Western Highway in the beautiful and scenic Hartley valley just past Mount Victoria and close to the turn off to Jenolan caves. Opening hours: Gallery 9.00am - 5.00pm Wed - Sun; Caf 9.00am - 9.00pm Thu - Sun. Holidays: best to ring.
