Blue Mountains Tourist : Autumn 2011
Lost Bear Gallery is a superb gallery space. Expansive and full of natural light, it is conveniently located in the centre of Leura, within the old Leura Post Office building. It will now be used exclusively by Katoomba Fine Art as an exhibition venue and this March kicks off with two must-see exhibitions, both by artists who live and work in Leura. Beginning March 3rd, Graham Hallett presents a wonderful collection of meticulous, intricate and unique oil paintings that capture the spirit of the Blue Mountains; each painstakingly painted over many weeks. Graham says, "I made these paintings to glow and live, inviting the eyes to enter and explore, and perhaps lend themselves to reverie". Following Graham is an exhibition by Scott Marr, beginning March 17. Scott presents an amazing collection of new works, featuring his highly original technique of drawing using pyrography and painting using natural pigments, extracted by the artist himself. Scott's pyrographic burning on paper and colouring using bush pigments are amazingly combined with skilful draughtsmanship to form a truly striking body of work. The distinctive technique, startling detail and remarkable natural palette presented by this emerging artist make for a show like no other. Lost Bear Gallery is open daily from 10am-5pm. The gallery can be contacted on 02 4784 1440 or visit www.lostbeargallery.com.au autumn 2011 www.bluemountainstouristnewspaper.com.au 25 Lost Bear Exhibitions Forest Way oil on canvas 49cm x 59cm 2011 by Graham Hallett Mirror pyrography & natural pigments on paper 25cm x 33cm 2011 by Scott Marr
