Blue Mountains Australia is available as a free download from the iTunes store and will work on current and future versions of the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The app -- developed for Scenic World at Katoomba -- traces what is sometimes called the 'Grand Circular Drive' -- that is, the road loop from Penrith to Windsor via the Great Western Highway and Bell's Line of Road, with diversions to the Jenolan, Oberon and Lithgow areas. It has information about various aspects of the Blue Mountains region and most of the towns and villages along the way. There are plenty of pictures and the application is linked to Google Maps. There are listings for accommodation, activities, attractions, galleries, places to eat and shopping. More businesses and venues of interest to tourists are being included every day. There will be a number of additional features and sections added in the coming weeks. "We are very proud of this magnificent region of ours," says Scenic World CEO Philip Hammon. "We wanted to show the world what we have to offer. This is a very special place. Not only is it generally accepted as Australia's most accessible wilderness, we also have hotels, restaurants, attractions, galleries and shopping to match any regional area in the country." The strategy behind the app is similar to that behind Scenic World's current television advertising campaign which promotes the Blue Mountains as a destination.
