Blue Mountains Tourist : Summer 2010-2011
Dreamtime Walkabout www.bluemountainstouristnewspaper.com.au summer 2010-11 12 Welcome to Katoomba! The quirky home of traditional shopping, it's also the place where breathtaking natural scenery, history, the arts, and café culture merge, making it a fascinating place to explore at a leisurely pace---on foot. To get the most out of your visit to Katoomba, grab a "Katoomba's Heritage and Art Walk" map from one of the shops in Katoomba Street or download it from www.blue mountainstouristnewspaper.com.au. It will help you appreciate the historic buildings, murals, festivals, "slow food" restaurants and picnic spots. It will tell you where to find a Tofu Burger, handmade Chocolates, Cherry Strudel, handmade Sushi, excellent Coffee from fresh-roasted beans, Sourdough Bread, Cardamon Cake, and steamed Dim Sims. The brochure/map is an initiative of Katoomba Chamber of Commerce and Community. Katoomba supports energy descent: • Minimal use of plastics and disposables in our businesses • Use of local products wherever possible, reducing food miles and packaging, paper or cloth bags for our shoppers • Development of car free tourism experiences. firstname.lastname@example.org "When luxury, privacy and intimacy are everything." He shares local traditional culture and the wild Australian bush through a unique Blue Mountains experience. It's called Aboriginal Blue Mountains Walkabout and was named Australia's best walking experience by Australian Travel magazine in 2008. This challenging 'walkabout' carefully guides people into the Aboriginal dreamtime and through secluded Blue Mountains rainforest. They experience all the important aspects of original Darug life including song, dance, story, art, ritual, bush medicine and even try some bush tucker. There's bathing under the waterfall (as featured on the front cover of this edition) and ochre bark and body painting. "We learn ancient wisdom with respect from a variety of cultural sites to receive modern day health and happiness," says Evan. "This walkabout will stimulate the senses, enrich the spirit and give people a timeless connection to our sacred land." A full illustrated copy of the poem 'The Dreaming' including extra information on understanding culture is given to all who complete their walkabout. www.bluemountainswalkabout.com
