Blue Mountains Tourist : Winter 2010
winter 2010 www.bluemountainstouristnewspaper.com.au 5 IT specialist Stefano Ferro is the latest entrant in our 'Show us your photographic skills' competition. Stefano made his first trip to the Blue Mountains in early May and took this stunning shot near Wentworth Falls. "I just loved the contrast of the openness of nature and the relative small size of the people in the tour group, almost like ants," said Stefano. "I have been living in Australia for more than four years and I have been to all the states in Australia ... I was astonished by the beauty of the Wentworth Falls walks, now one of my favourite Australian attractions. I was surprised by the variety of the environment, sometimes recalling European mountains, sometimes Vietnamese forests, not to mention the South American falls. All in Australia, all in the Blue Mountains, all in a 6km walk (Undercliff Walk and National Pass)." Stefano wins a complimentary Family Pass to Scenic World for his effort. The photographer judged 'Best of the Year' will win lunch for two in the revolving Skyway Restaurant -- the only one with a view of the Three Sisters from every table. To enter, contact Rob Weaver on 02 4780 0200. Show us your photographic skills BOUTIQUE HOTEL "Affordable service and style right near the Three Sisters!" The Scenic Railway has now been carrying passengers for 80 years in various forms of carriages, ranging from wooden coal skips to today's Duralium 84 seat train. Various attractions have also entertained the tourists on the site. The 'Rocket Plane' was one, and a miniature train once circled the swamp, pulled by a reproduction 'Spirit of Progress' locomotive. We are making an offer of a free trip on the Scenic Railway if you bring in a pre-1960 photograph of the Scenic Railway area, and let us scan it for inclusion in our files. We do have lots of photos of the Scenic Railway car itself -- it's the area surrounding the top and bottom platforms that we are interested in. Contact Scenic World on 02 4780 0200. Conditions apply: 1) One Adult Valley Return ticket for a photo or group of photos. 2) Photo must be pre-1960 and can be in negative or positive form. 3) Provenance of photo is preferred -- photographer, date, names of people in photo -- all will be held with our records.
